Climate

The climate of Fiji is tropical, and therefore very warm all year round. Even during the cooler months, the average temperature is around 70 degrees F. The cooler months also bring most of the yearly rainfall, and cyclones do occur, although fairly rare.

History

Europeans first settled the island country of Fiji in the early 19th century, in the town of Levuka. Between then and 1874, the worlds powers fought for control of the islands, ending with Fiji becoming a British Colony. The country remained under British rule until 1970, when it became an independent nation.
