History

The earliest settlers of Argentina were Europeans, primarily of Spanish decent. Upon their arrival, the Spanish were met with resistance from nomadic tribes, which they conquered on their second attempt in 1580. The country remained under Spanish rule until the early 19th century, when Argentina became an independent state.
