Rotorua is located close to New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland, and is famous for its volcanic activity. In fact, the area is one of the world’s most active geothermal areas, featuring three geothermal reserves that are home to geysers, steaming pools, hot springs and boiling mud. Some of the awesome sights include the 900-year old sulphuric Champagne Pool and the powerful Pohutu Geyser that can reach heights of 30 metres. It is also the site of Mt. Tarawera, a volcano that offers amazing views inside its rim.
