Known as the holy river of Hinduism, the Ganges River stretches from the western Himalayans, through Northern India and empties into the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh. Though many worship it as the Hindu goddess Ganga, sadly, the Ganges River is makes the list as one of the top 5 most polluted rivers in the world. This pollution is a threat to both the humans that rely on the water for their daily needs, but also to the many aquatic species that inhabit the river such as the endangered Ganges river dolphin.
