Located on Java island in Indonesia, the Borobudur Temple Compounds is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in the world. Built over a period of 75 years betwen 750 and 842 CE, it’s made up of approximately two million blocks of stone. The site was abandoned in the 14th century and left to decay for hundreds of years under volcanic ash in the jungle, until it was rediscovered in the 19th century. Today it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is among the top sites to visit in Indonesia.
