The Ruta de las Flores (or Route of Flowers) in Western El Salvador is a 36-kilometre winding path through the heart of coffee country, from Sonsonate to Ahuachapán. The small Central American country, roughly the size of Massachusetts, is home to about 20 active volcanoes. The rich soil that comes from these potentially destructive formations provides the perfect home for the coffee bean plant, a staple of El Salvador’s export business.
