Iceland: Sheer Awesomeness
Regardless of how hard its must-see places are to pronounce, this is one country you … must … see.

After travelling across Europe last year, I wanted to see one more place before heading home. A place that was off the beaten track. A place that not many people had been to, and one that not many people knew much about it. That place, for me, was Iceland.
I actually hadn’t thought about visiting Iceland until it was highlighted in the news after its now infamous, flight-cancelling Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruptions. I was immediately fascinated and hoped that I would get to see an eruption while I was there. Sadly, that wasn’t the case, but in my short 6-day trip, boy, was I amazed!
Aside from the volcanoes one of the biggest draws of Iceland is the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. Known for its bright blue colour and silica face masks, the Blue Lagoon was how I started my trip and it just got better from there. I went on two different day tours past various volcanoes and glaciers (stopping long enough to even lick one). I saw more waterfalls than I can count on two hands, amazing furious beaches, a geyser, wild Icelandic horses, and even went on a brewery tour. I also ate fermented shark – yes, fermented shark, I tell you! – went to markets, museums big and small, and made new friends. And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
It’s hard to put into words, the sheer awesomeness of Iceland and its capital city Reykjavik, but I attempted to do so in my “TravelYourself Does Iceland” video. I got my camera almost a little too wet,got it covered in volcanic dirt, lost the windsock for my microphone, all so I could bring this video to you, so I hope you enjoy it!
Selected to be in the Top 11 of the Nomading Film Festival, “Travel Yourself Does Iceland” will be making you want to go off the beaten path yourself, and visit Iceland as soon as you can!
